Effective Therapy for Trauma in Cincinnati, Ohio

Don't let your past dictate your future.

"Everyone seems to be able to move forward except me.  I feel stuck."

Trauma shows up differently for certain people.  Maybe you are having difficulty focusing or easily startled by noise or unexpected touches.  Sometimes it shows up in your physical body as frequent headaches, upset stomach, trouble sleeping and nightmares.  Sometimes more about how you feel in your body.  You feel numb or unable to find joy.  And sometimes it shows up in your relationships with others, feeling like you can't trust them or taking responsibility for things that are outside your control.

Trauma can be seen as ANYTHING that negatively impacts the way you see yourself, others or the world around you.

But there is HOPE.

Right now you are feeling all alone, that no one understands.  Maybe you have even checked out and feel numb to the world around you and you are not sure how to get back to NORMAL.  To feel like YOU again.

There is HOPE.  You are stronger than you realize and instead of feeling shameful and hopeless, you can begin to heal and find joy again.

Working together, we can root out past painful learning experiences and discover how they are impacting your life today.  With this new found knowledge we will then build new skills and strategies to help you build the life you desire.

There is always another path.

It is possible to heal from your past and not let it impact your future.

As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Tammy has the skills and experience to help you move forward without fear and regret.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to share every detail of my traumatic experience in order to heal?

Thankfully, you do not have to report every detail about a past traumatic experience in order to receive healing.  Tammy is trained in special techniques to ensure the least amount of stress and promote the greatest amount of healing.

What if I don't remember my past?

It is not uncommon to have little to no memories of the past when trauma is involved.  Many times individuals will have a nagging suspicion something has happened, although they don't recall.  In these cases, therapy focuses on the current symptoms and triggers.  In addition, Tammy has received training in tools and exercises to gently promote the recovery of memories that are connected to triggers, promoting healing.

How long will therapy take?

This varies per individual, their circumstances and therapy goals.  During the treatment planning phase Tammy will review her recommendations for your specific situation.  However, it is not uncommon for an individual to enter therapy for a few months, progress to a point where they feel stable and take a break from therapy.  Once a new trigger emerges, they return to therapy to take the next steps on their healing journey.  Everyone's healing is unique.

What is Trauma?

Trauma can be defined in either broad or very defined terms.  Here at New Path Counseling, we define trauma as "any painful learning experience."  This definition encompasses anything the individual perceived as painful.  This could be an easily identifiable trauma event such as an accident, physical assault, or abuse; or it could be less identifiable, such at bullying, neglect, or betrayal. In addition, trauma can include multiple events that build on each other developing complex trauma.
